Bronze Statue, Size: 25 × 36 × 10 cm
Often found in the oeuvre of Ivan Minekov, mythological themes have been a source of artistic inspiration for centuries. “Centaur Kidnapping a Nymph” is the artist’s interpretation of the dramatic scene. Looking through history, we can find renderings of the subject dating back to the neoclassical and romantic period, usually focusing on the tension between two conflicting bodies. Contrary to the conventional approach, Minekov alludes to the emotional tension between two reduced figures, suggesting the agony by their gestures. His representation of the scene is rather schematic, in line with the tradition of modernist sculpture.
